Thank you Tom’s of Maine for sponsoring this post.

We all try to do what’s best for our family. Sometimes we just try to do what we can in the moment, sometimes those decisions are geared more towards the future. How will my choices effect my kids today? How will my choices influence my children when they are older? Will my choices “rub off” on my children? Will they be inspired to lead their lives following in my footsteps? I’m so thrilled to have partnered with Tom’s of Maine and to have an opportunity to share my story with you!

When I was younger, I ate fast food constantly- as a waitress and then a flight attendant with crazy hours, it was often “my only option”. I ate what I wanted, I didn’t think sleep was necessary, I never read any labels on food packages or beauty products. And then my life changed forever. I became pregnant with Ada. From the moment I heard her heartbeat I knew that I needed to make the best possible decisions because my body was being shared with another life. What I ate, she ate what was absorbed into my skin went to her as well. That was my thinking and what got me started on this new lifestyle journey I have been on. It started out with diet. Eating well became a big part of my life. When I got pregnant with Grey, my focus shifted to what I was putting on my skin, but in baby steps.

When I became pregnant with Westley, the desire to switch to a natural lifestyle consumed me. Cleaning products were thrown away, shampoo, conditioner and body washes were thrown away. Facial cleansers and toothpastes were thrown away. Everything that had a name in the ingredients that I didn’t know, was thrown away. I began to feel like an entirely new person. However, I was forgetting one very important product. A product that we all (I hope) use everyday.

Have you ever taken a look on the back of your stick of deodorant? Go ahead, I dare you. I was so surprised that of all of the products I stopped using I never had a moment to look at the back of my deodorant! I was so thrilled to toss my deodorant and try out Tom’s of Maine – Long Lasting Lavender Deodorant! Tom’s of Maine is the #1 natural deodorant brand with a number of award-winning products among its deodorant portfolio! Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting deodorants offer many scents, including Lavender, Tea Tree and Lemongrass. The entire line is free from aluminum, artificial fragrances and petrochemicals and Tom’s does no animal testing! My husband has been using (and loving) the Tea Tree and I have been hooked on the Lavender. As I mentioned, the whole line is aluminum-free, but what does that mean exactly? Aluminum in deodorant is what keeps you from sweating, which sounds great until you REALLY think about that for a minute. It essentially “plugs” your sweat glands which stops the sweat from coming to the surface of your skin. It totally scares me that a product can STOP what our bodies are supposed to do naturally. So while Tom’s of Maine won’t keep you from sweating (which is NATURAL people), their deodorant sticks DO use hops to fight odor and provide you with 24-hour odor protection!

I recently became hooked on Essential Oils, the natural fragrances, like the Lavender for example, smell like you just plucked the flowers out of the ground. Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Lavender Deodorant smells just the same. You know when you get self conscious about body odor and you pretend you’re reaching for something and sneakily sniff your underarms? Well, I do that now- but not because I’m worried about the odor. I absolutely just love the natural Lavender fragrance.

I just had Westley.

It seems like yesterday, but it was four months ago. I exclusively nurse him. His face, and sweet baby hands are constantly in close proximity to my underarms and guess what? I don’t need to worry about ANY chemicals getting onto his soft, new, fresh baby skin.

My children see me taking such great care of myself. They see me eat fruits and vegetables, they never see me taking medications, they see me exercise, do yoga and take care of my skin.

I hope these decisions I make not only in caring for my family, but in caring for myself, will be behaviors they choose to emulate as adolescents and adults! We all want what is best for our families and I hope this post inspires you all to read those labels and make the switch as well!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of CLEVER and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

  1. I will only use chemical free products on CB, but I need to switch all of mine over as well! I didn’t think about her being exposed to my deodorant while nursing!

  2. We LOVE Toms deodorant in our household, and feel so much better putting their product on our bodies as opposed to the brand we used to use. They have really amazing products and we’re so glad that they’re available in almost every store we shop in now!
